Rev. Kathleen was born and raised in Oklahoma, and in the Southern Baptist faith tradition. While holding a deep affection for the idea of religious community and service to humanity, trying to reconcile her personal theology with that of the church proved too difficult. After leaving her childhood faith and ten years after feeling confused about a call to professional ministry, Rev. Kathleen found and embraced Unitarian Universalism in Connecticut. It was then that her call to ministry became clear and her life forever changed as she and her family embarked on an adventure of discernment and ministerial development!
After spending four years in Chicago, at Meadville-Lombard Theological School, where she earned her Master of Divinity degree, Kathleen, along with her husband Mitchell and son Adam, moved to East County San Diego to begin her ministry at Summit in August, 2007. While in seminary, Kathleen served as Ministerial Intern and Summer Minister at the Unitarian Church of Evanston, Illinois, Ministerial Intern at Faith in Place interfaith environmental agency in Chicago, and as Student Minister at Lake Country Unitarian Universalist Church in Hartland, Wisconsin.
The Green family includes daughter Brooke, who is a college student on the East Coast, adult son Noah, who lives in Los Angeles and Lucy the Maltese! Kathleen enjoys performing arts, music, knitting, cooking, and time at the beach.
“My most loved aspect of ministry is worship. It is a wonderfully challenging, inspiring, and spirit-filled time for the beloved community. Gathering together with members, friends, and visitors to explore the sacred, share our journeys, and open our hearts & minds is what our Sunday morning worship is about. It is an experience that, as a minister, I am honored to participate in and lead.”
