Social Responsibility
Walking the Talk: Summit's Social Action Committee

Our Vision Statement

The vision of the Social Action Committee is to work toward a more compassionate and just world by providing community service, material assistance, and social advocacy to persons in need.

    Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Social Action Committee is to create, coordinate, and implement social justice activities both within the Summit community and the greater community at large; to educate and lead others in socially responsible behavior; and to model compassionate social responsibility to our children.

    What do we do?
Recent and ongoing Summit Social Action activities include:

Crisis House: The mission of Crisis House is "to serve the community by providing socio-economically disadvantaged and homeless families and individuals the guidance and resources necessary to achieve self-sufficiency success." Every year, Summit provides Crisis House with hygiene packets for the homeless, dried and canned foods, baby items such as formula and diapers, household goods for domestic violence shelter, and Christmas gifts for our adopted family.
Interfaith Shelter Network: Each spring, Summit helps St. Dunstan’s Church to provide food and chaperones for the homeless as part of the Interfaith Shelter Network.
Esperanza Colegio of Tijuana: Summit provides monthly support for a student at Esperanza, a school that provides an enriching education to children in a very poor area of Tijuana.
AIDS Walk: Summitarians participate in the yearly San Diego AIDS walk.
Bus Tokens for Katrina Victims: Funds collected from Summitarians were used to purchase bus tokens for victims of Hurricane Katrina in pursuit of jobs and housing.
Summit has participated in many other activities not listed and plans to begin new projects in the future!
What can you do?
Look for the "Social Action Corner" in the newsletter for ways you can participate in upcoming social action activities. Or even better, come to a Social Action Meeting! We would love to have you join us! We meet the third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. before the service.
